Australia native Madolline Gourley travels the globe by trading her pet sitting skills for free lodging. Over the years, that has allowed her to make friends with all sorts of cats, from the very friendly to the very shy, while exploring new cities. She recently got back to United States travel after a bit of a pandemic-caused break, and one particular feline was glad to have her in his house.
Bones was adopted as a senior and is still kicking around at an estimated 20-years-old. When his parents left for a trip, they hired on Gourley to look after him. Before she got to work, she was warned that he could be a little needy. That was apparently an understatement.
Gourley explains, “Bones is truly the most affectionate and needy cat ever. I was warned, but I wasn’t sure it would be true. It was true.”
She says each day when she came home from her Salt Lake City adventures, he’d jump on her lap. As she went about her business around the house, he had to be next to her or actually on her. The little snuggle bug, who has an orange patch on his chest from being messy with his food and having it build up there over the years, wouldn’t even let her have peace in the bathroom. If she took a little too long putting on makeup or drying her hair, he’d jump on the counter and demand attention.
Gourley adds, “He had to sleep under the covers and up against you each night. It was actually difficult getting to sleep while I was on this sit because I didn’t want to squash him throughout the night, especially because he is so old and little… and fragile.”
She says she’s not sure how his owners get anything done when they’re home because Bones wants absolutely no break from the affection.
