“8 pm, time to open the portals,” I say every night.
“Brrmmphh,” answers Honeybelle.
No, it’s not a rehearsal for a sci-fi film. It’s just an ordinary evening at my house with an adorable torbie cat named Honeybelle.
Honeybelle has many duties in our family. She tells us when to eat, when to nap, when to play with her loopy loops, and when to open the portals for the night. By this I mean she wants all of the kitchen cupboards opened, along with the door to the laundry room. Why? Well, my theory is that she is from outer space and is inviting other space cats to come for a visit.
Seriously, though, Honeybelle fills an extremely important role in the family. She is the baby. Someone to love and cuddle and take care of. Nothing in the world seems too wrong or too difficult when one has a small creature depending on you.
Honeybelle came into my life after my cat Tika Belle went to heaven after 18 wonderful years. Honeybelle has her own personality but I love her just as much!
Although she trills instead of saying meow, Honeybelle makes herself heard! She even lets me know when I need to take a break. One trill sends me to the couch where Honey will plop herself down for a good long time. “Let’s watch a movie while you pet me,” she seems to say.
Honeybelle is a wonderful kitty and she helps me perform my favorite role of all time. “What is that?” you ask. The role of Cat Mom!
