“Life is too short to be little.”
Dale Carnegie, author of How to Stop Worrying and Start Living, did not have a dog in mind when he wrote those meaningful words.
But, to the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach, letting Teddy experience life to the fullest is just as important as it would be for any other living thing.
Staff at the animal shelter found the small dog abandoned in front of their facility in September. Thin and frail, with a big lump on his rear end, the dog was immediately taken to a vet clinic for diagnosis.
The rescuers’ worst fear was confirmed. The dog had terminal cancer.
It was a piece of truth that was very hard to take in. Moreover, the vet could not tell when how long the dog had left.
Teddy, as they started to affectionately call the little guy, deserves a lot better than what he has gone through in his short life. And now that cancer has made his existence even shorter, the staff at the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach decided to make the best of every moment for him.
They gifted Teddy with a bucket list that is full of surprises and things that the dog is super-enthusiastic about!
Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach is one of Teddy’s favorite places that he’s visited so far! Seeing other animals with unique features and habitats fills him with wonder. These sawfish may look frightful, but Teddy is so curious and excited to meet new acquaintances!
The SkyWheel of Myrtle Beach is another thrilling adventure for Teddy! This time, he can get closer to the sky than he’s ever been and see the clouds that look like cotton candies! The panoramic view of Myrtle Beach from above is enough to take anyone’s breath away, and we know Teddy enjoyed it too. These are memories that will last him a lifetime, no matter how short it is.
Of course, becoming a hero is one of Teddy’s fondest dreams! With friendly help from the North Myrtle Beach Police and North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue, Teddy got to spend a weekend helping out these real-life heroes and be one of them. We’re sure Teddy could feel his spirit soaring with pride, happiness, and extraordinary courage to face whatever lies ahead.
Part of Teddy’s bucket list is definitely enjoying a Super Bowl Paw-ty with friends! He has met a lot of them, including the cute animal mascots of the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals. Teddy is so thankful to be given a second chance to find happiness and heart-warming friendships.
Teddy also took the opportunity to get involved in the Humane Society’s Annual Macaroni Mania! The event helped raise funds for a new building that will benefit more rescue animals. Teddy was chosen as one of the judges for the macaroni cook-off. Wow! He must keep on training his palate so he can tell the best flavor!
For Teddy, his days may be running out, but he will be closing his eyes with joy and warmth in his small heart. No life is too short when one knows how it feels to be loved by caring humans.
