After being found as a kitten on the streets of Greece, Dmitri was given a second chance at life. Rescuers quickly recognized the little feline wouldn’t make it on his own and they took him to get medical care.
The kitten was suffering from a terrible infection that meant they had to remove both of his eyeballs. It wasn’t a choice the rescuers wanted to make, but there were no other options.
Finding a home for a disabled cat can be challenging, but Dmitri was fortunate enough to find his way from Greece to London, thanks to a cat rescue charity. He’d likely have a better chance at finding a loving family in London and that’s exactly what happened!
When a woman in London contacted the cat charity about adopting a cat, they asked her if she’d consider adopting a blind cat. Speaking with GeoBeats Animals, the woman said that adopting a cat without eyesight isn’t something she’d considered before, but the charity told her about a cat that piqued her interest.
They had a 10-month-old cat that’d been rescued as a stray from Greece. The poor thing had suffered a terrible eye infection as a kitten, resulting in both eyes having to be surgically removed.
While the woman wasn’t sure about adopting a blind cat, she went to meet him anyway – and they instantly hit it off! The cat, Dmitri, was loving and playful like other cats. Despite not having his eyes, it was clear that he was loving life and could use a new home with someone who would give him the best chance at normalcy.
The woman decided to go through with the adoption and she couldn’t be more grateful that she did. Speaking with GeoBeats Animals, she said:
“Overall he’s just a very very loving affectionate cat. It was my first cat altogether so I was nervous about being solely responsible for taking care of him but other than the fact that he can’t go outside without supervision, he’s just like any other cat. Something that surprised me was that he just kind of knows where everything is. He uses his nose and whiskers and other senses to find his way around.”
Dmitri loves to curl up with his human and watch tv or run around the house and play. He may not have his eyes, but he’s got quite a personality!
