This Valentine’s Day, love is (literally) in the air.
On February 14, we flew 45 Louisiana shelter dogs to safety and adoption on our Valentine’s Day “Love at First Flight” Flight to Freedom.
“Love is in the air this Valentine’s Day!” Greater Good Charities posted on Facebook. “Our “Love at First Flight” mission, in partnership with The Animal Rescue Site by GreaterGood, has just touched down in Boise, ID, full of 45 wagging tails!”
All 45 shelter pets were saved from Louisiana, where their chances of adoption were slim. With your support, GreaterGood and Greater Good Charities flew these rescued pups to safety in Boise, Idaho, where our shelter partners will help them get adopted.
“These at-risk dogs are coming from shelters in Louisiana, where some space has now been cleared to allow the shelters to help as many animals in their communities as possible,” Greater Good Charities explained. “Here at the Idaho Humane Society, these pups will have the best chance at finding loving furever homes.”
The Valentine’s Day flight–which was operated by Greater Good’s Good Flights program and funded by your donations—-will give rescued puppies like Ettie, Freye, Thaddeus, Seamus, and Liam the chance to grow up with loving families.
This scruffy litter of five was born to a Louisiana dog who–at just 11 months old–is basically a puppy herself. But though the mama dog’s owner couldn’t keep them, she also wanted to make sure all 5 puppies got adopted. Unfortunately, this isn’t likely in Louisiana, where the pandemic and hurricane damage often discourages people from adoption.
“The owner loves her dog and wants the puppies to go to a place where they will have a better life,” shelter workers told Greater Good Charities. Your donations–which helped fund the flight that airlifted these puppies to brighter futures in Boise–helped make this possible.

Our Valentine’s Day flight also helped us save dogs like Spud, a rescue found in rural Louisiana with a gunshot wound in his back. But even despite his wounds, Spud remained a sweet and loving dog. After he recovered from surgery, Spud was booked on our Valentine’s Day “Love at First Flight” Flight to Freedom. This morning, Spud finally landed in Boise, Idaho, where he’ll be adopted into a safe, loving home and never get hurt again.
Thanks for helping us show shelter pets what it’s like to feel love for Valentine’s Day! Please consider making a donation in March to support our St. Patrick’s Day Flight to Freedom.
Our valentines are all 45 of the dogs on this morning’s Good Flight! How cute is Spud? 😍 It’s just a matter of time…
