You don’t always have to be an organized rescue group in order to do something amazing for animals. That was recently seen in Kent, England when a woman was walking her dog along a country road.
As she walked along, she saw something that made her sad. It was a young horse who was obviously sick and was laying in the middle of a field. When she saw the horse, she called the RSPCA for help.
An inspector for that organization, Rosie Russon, came out to see what was going on. She was also shocked when she saw the horse, Adie, and what type of condition she was in.
In a press release, she spoke about how the little horse was lying in the middle of this huge field. She said: “The ground around him was churned up where he had obviously been struggling to get himself back up after collapsing to his feet, but he had become so weak he could barely lift his head; it was very sad to see.”
The two of them went over to try to lift the horse but they weren’t able to do so. They called a veterinarian but while they waited, the woman who had called ran over to her car and got some water. It seems as if it was just what the horse needed.
Russon had some hay and gave it to the horse. It was cold and the dog walker got some blankets to wrap the horse up while he was laying on the ground.
It wasn’t long before others in the small community had heard about what was going on. They came out to assist.
“A local horse rider who had passed us beforehand then appeared on foot, bringing us a horse rug from her own yard, and we used this as a sling to raise Adie to his feet. It was by no means an easy job, but between nine of us we managed to haul him up and keep him steady. The kindness of these people was very moving,” they explained in the press release.
Once the veterinarian came to the scene, the crowd helped to move the horse to his trailer.
Eventually, the veterinarian was able to take the horse to their place of business and give him a thorough examination. He was dehydrated and hungry but he also had parasites.
It took quite some time before the little horse was back up to his full capacity again. He was still being treated with steroids and other medications to clear out the parasites. They say that he is through the worst of it and well on the road to recovery.
After the horse was able to recover, they even found him a new home where he could get all of the love and attention he needed.
