I think I’ve talked enough about the awesomeness of cats for everyone to know that I’m a total cat lady. But there is another animal that I am very much fond of: The horse.
I find horses to be incredibly beautiful and gentle animals despite their large sizes. They’re gentle giants for sure. The first time that I ever saw or rode a horse was when I was a little kid.
I was four, and my mom and grandparents had taken me to a local petting zoo that also had a pony corral for the kids. I got to take a turn on the back of a brown and tan pony, and it was an exhilarating moment. From that point on, I was in love with horses.
These fascinating creatures are often a draw for kids. They’ve got beautiful coats, lustrous mane, and they’re absolutely graceful in their movements. It’s no wonder that kids become awed when they see one. Horses are also curious and social animals, so becoming friends with one is pretty easy. One little girl got to make the acquaintance of one family of 3 horses, and the video is so heartwarming.
The clip features a mare and two foals. The little horse family are Belgian Drafts, a horse breed known for being very docile and cooperative, making them wonderful horses for riding. Perhaps its this gentleness that drew them to befriending a young girl who was walking around the grassy area where the family of three was grazing.
According to Robert Piessens, the man who took the video and uploaded it, the two young foals are named Lisa and Fien. They were just four days old at the time the video was taken. In the video, they are in the field with their mom, who is happily noshing away on some grass. The two siblings nurse, but then they start feeling feisty and begin roaming around – ready for playtime.
It doesn’t take long for them to attract the attention of the young child, who cautiously approached Mom and gets her seal of approval. Following Mom’s okay, the two little foals quickly befriend the young girl and it looks like a fast friendship straight away. The little foals seem to really enjoy the pets the girl is giving them.
One commentator on the video even pointed out that the little girl approached the animals in the correct way, saying, “Pleas note the child approaches in clear view of the mother. The mother smells her first then she approach the foal.”
The video has gone on to amass more than 7 million views. It’s quite a great example of how emotionally intelligent animals are, and how there isn’t much difference between them and us in terms of feelings.
