Hillside Animal Sanctuary and Dog Rescue in England put a plea on Facebook for old bedding to keep rescue dogs warm this winter.

“We usually have a plentiful supply of donated bedding but just recently we have been using more and our stocks have dwindled,” wrote the rescue.

They asked locals in the Norfolk area to donate blankets and (non-feather) duvets so each dog could snuggle into something soft and cozy while they wait for a forever home.

The plea for help was answered.

The community gathered up dozens of blankets and soft bedding to donate to the homeless dogs. At one point there was even a “traffic jam” due to the amount of people coming to drop off donations. Roughly 100 people brought blankets to the rescue’s two locations.

Wendy Valentine, the founder of sanctuary and rescue, shared with local news how the donated blankets would make a big impact on the shelter dogs.

“They’ve got their plastic beds… but put the (blankets) on and it just makes them cosy and comfy and warm,” she said.

Countless dogs have been saved and re-homed since the Hillside Dog Rescue was started in 2010. The rescue provides all the care and support the dog needs until a loving home can be found.

They ensure each dog finds the perfect home by performing home checks and requiring all dogs live inside the home, not outside.

Rosie, a senior lab mix, is just one of the shelter dogs to benefit from the warm blankets, but she would love to spend her golden years in a home. Don’t let her age fool you, the 11-year-old still enjoys long walks and has tons of energy. Her only requirement is that she is the only pet.

There are dozens of other dogs who are also looking for their special person. See all the adoptable dogs here.
