The Christmas season is all about doing things to show others we care and spreading holiday cheer. This year, donations from generous supporters have allowed GreaterGood, in partnership with Greater Good Charities, to spread lots of good Christmas cheer by sending toys and basic necessities to at-risk and needy children.
In Maryland, GreaterGood and Greater Good Charities (GGC) teamed up with Organization of Hope (OOH) to support children at elementary schools in three different districts in the Baltimore area.
Bridging Hope (BH), doing business as Organization of Hope, is a 501(c)(3) that was founded in 2009. The organization is veteran-, minority-, and woman-led. According to founder and executive director Patrecia Williams, Ph.D., PMP, CBM, QMS, CNE, CNC, RCP, PRS, RPS, CCTP, CSAM, CTMH, the organization’s mission is to make a difference for children, adults, elders, veterans, families, and animals navigating difficult circumstances by providing sustainable educational, emotional, and behavioral support services.
OOH offers a food pantry, shelter and housing programs, consulting and business incubation services, treatment and recovery programs, employment readiness skills training, a mobile hygiene and resource program, and other support services to those in need in their community.
Organization of Hope distributed toys and GGC Good Packs provided by GreaterGood to schools in these three districts, where they were given to children in need who might not otherwise have had toys for Christmas and who might be lacking some basic necessities like warm socks and hygiene products.
Additionally, toys were donated to the Prince George’s County Police on Christmas Eve so that officers would have something in their cars for kids who come into their care after unfortunate incidents occur. These toys will help comfort and support children who have been the victims of child abuse and neglect and those who have dealt with seriously traumatizing experiences.
GGC’s Good Packs are backpacks that contain basic necessities such as hygiene items and warm winter items. They make great gifts for homeless individuals but are also perfect for families who have fallen on hard times and may not be able to afford some of the most basic necessities for themselves and their children.
The toys, of course, aren’t strictly physical necessities, but they make a huge difference in the welfare of children whose families are going through trying times financially.
Holiday toys provide a much-needed distraction, comfort, and even a sense of hope. They allow kids to be kids, even when parts of their childhood have been taken away by the grim realities of poverty.
We believe every child deserves to get a special toy for Christmas, regardless of what their parents or guardians can afford. And of course, everyone deserves to have their basic physical needs met. We’re happy to have been able to meet the needs of some of our community members in need with your assistance.
“Thank you so much for the toys and the impact they had on others!” says Patrecia.
GreeaterGood, Greater Good Charities, and Organization of Hope plan to continue their partnership to help people in need in the future. With the help of donors like you, we’re making the world a better place.
“Our team is excited about coordinating the next steps as we expand our strategic network and in determining how we can support one another,” says Patrecia. “Thank you for your commitment to improving our communities.”
