The maternal instinct is strong – not just in humans but other animals as well. It is also what helps animals adopt the orphaned young of other animals.

Sometimes these adoptions range across species. For one litter of eight tiny hedgehog babies, they needed a surrogate mom.

Sadly, their own mother had gotten killed in a pretty gruesome accident which involved lawnmowers.

While they might have struggled to survive on their own, they wouldn’t have to. One very maternal cat named Musya turned out to be the surrogate mom that this little bunch needed.

Following the tragic death of the hedgehogs’ mother, Musya gladly took them in and provided them with the love and care that they needed. The little baby hedgehogs immediately took to the sweet little black cat and gladly bonded with her. And the feeling was mutual.

The feline proved to really enjoy her role as surrogate mom to the tiny hoglets, feeding them and staying up with them the same as she would with kittens of her own. It is incredibly heartwarming to know that these little orphans are in good paws with Musya.
