There are some people who are known for their distinctive voice and it becomes a trademark.
Included in that list of individuals are many heavy hitters, such as Morgan Freeman and Samuel L Jackson.
One singer who is known for his gravelly voice is Tom Waits. He is primarily known because of his jazz and blues music but in 1981, he decided to do something different and did the voiceover for a dog food commercial.
The Butchers Blend dog food commercial was made a little better, thanks to his unique vocals. It is interesting to hear, but it is also the only time you will hear it.
Waits admitted that he was down on his luck at the time and needed some cash. He also loves dogs, so it wasn’t too much of a stretch for him to take a walk on this particular wild side.
The following is the script from the video:
“As dog travels through the envied and often tempting world of man, there’s one thing, above all, that tempts him most…the taste of meat! And that is why Purina makes Butcher’s Blend. Butcher’s Blend is the first dry dog food with three tempting meaty tastes. Beef, liver, ‘n’ bacon. All in one bag. So c’mon, deliver your dog from the world of temptation. The world of Butcher’s Blend. The first dry dog food with three meaty tastes.”
Of course, that really doesn’t do it justice because you really have to hear it for yourself.
Fortunately, we have the video for you below:
