Pets are like family, and when we’re faced with no other option but to rehome them, it can be heartbreaking. It’s not something that happens very often, but sometimes there are things beyond our control that separate us from our loved ones – including our pets.
For a man in Rome, New York, things weren’t looking up for him. Not only was John facing serious medical issues, but he was also faced with the reality of losing his best friend: his dog.
When John was hospitalized, he didn’t have anyone else to care for his pet so he was forced to surrender the pup to the Rome Humane Society. It was challenging to part with his dog, but ultimately, he didn’t have a choice. He had to be in the hospital and his dog wasn’t allowed to be there with him.
While that would be the end for some owner-pet relationships, John was given a second chance thanks to a kindhearted nurse!
The RN, Jennifer, worked at the Adult Day Healthcare at The Grand at Rome where John was going through rehabilitation. When she heard about John’s situation, she immediately went to the humane society and adopted his dog!
The organization shared the story on their Facebook, saying:
“After John was hospitalized, he was forced to give his dog to the Rome Humane Society.
When our RN Jennifer heard about it she immediately went there and adopted John’s dog so that she could bring him to visit while he completes his rehab!
This is what it means to #BeGrand!”
Thanks to Jennifer, John could recover in peace knowing his dog was in as great of hands as he was. Not only that, but he actually got to visit with his pup during rehab!
Jennifer was able to bring her newly adopted dog to visit John as much as possible. Someone commented on the Facebook post, “his dog is the best therapy he could get!,” and based on John’s smile, it seems they were spot on:
Hopefully John can recover quickly and get back home to be with his dog on a more permanent basis!
