Security footage captured a woman stealing a rescue puppy from a fundraising raising event in Holly Springs, North Carolina.
The fundraising event was hosted at the Niche Wine Lounge on December 12th, 2021. Proceeds from the event were going to support the Pawfect Match Rescue and Rehabilitation, a non-profit that saves dogs and puppies from high-kill shelters.
Ten rescue dogs, including puppies, were taken to the event to support the fundraiser and to get
people interested in opening their homes to a rescue dog or puppy.
Sadly, around 6:30 pm, a woman that attended the event walked up to the pen of Ms. Persy, a baby pit bull mix, and picked the dog up. She proceeded to walk outside and hop in a white Honda Accord.
Footage showed the woman, accompanied by a man, walking around the event and paying special attention to Ms. Persy. Eventually, the man left and the woman stayed behind. No one knew until it was too late that the man left to pull a car around so the woman could snatch the puppy and run.
The rescue posted about the situation on Facebook, asking the couple who stole the puppy to come forward:
According to WRAL, Ms Percy’s foster mom, Debbie Sandlin, said that the woman who stole the dog actually spoke to a volunteer about adopting the pup and was told no. The rescue requires each adoptee fill out an application and complete the full adoption process before being approved for an animal.
Sandlin also said they were concerned for Ms Persey because she hadn’t had her rabies vaccine yet. She’s susceptible to getting diseases, and it’s unclear if she’ll be in a suitable home or living environment.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for Ms Persey’s safe return:
The rescue is working with local police and news station to find the couple who stole the dog and get Ms Persey back to safety. They shared security footage of the couple, including the moment the woman took the puppy and left.
