When temperatures fall, some pets get to cozy up around the fire with their families. But other animals aren’t so lucky, including the Boston corgi who was taped up in a box and left to die inside a construction site porta potty as winter closed in.
Thankfully, the abandoned dog was able to free her head and front paws, which allowed her to start barking for help. A neighbor heard the dog’s frantic cries and called the police, who rescued the dog from her deadly predicament just in time.

The rescued dog was taken to MSPCA-Angell, a Boston shelter where workers began nursing her back to health. The approximately five-year-old dog didn’t bear any physical signs of injury or abuse, but she was obviously terrified after suffering such trauma–quite possibly at the hands of her owner.
“These situations are always perplexing to us and disheartening for us,” a shelter spokesman told WCVB Channel 5 Boston. “She came in really frightened and overwhelmed, as you can imagine. That’s a scary experience for any animal to go through.”

Thankfully, the dog–who wasn’t chipped or wearing a collar, making it nearly impossible for rescuers to find her name or original owners–began to relax when she realized she was safe.
“She started to make some program where she started to play a little bit, loosened up, and started to show a much more sweet side,” the shelter worker said. “Our next objective is to make sure she’s in a place where something like this will never happen to her again.”
