Being a stray dog can be a very scary existence. They have to constantly dodge dangers such as cars and horrible humans that would actively seek to do them physical harm.
As a result, sometimes stray dogs can become very shy and scared around people. They don’t know what someone’s intentions might be towards them, so it is safer to just run away.
One little black dog was so scared of humans, when she saw some she ran across the road in an effort to escape from them. Sadly, she ended up suffering an accident and falling down into a hole that was on the side of the road.
The people who were trying to rescue her in the first place, saw the entire thing unfold. Rather than leave her to her fate, they quickly rushed over to the scene of the accident to see how they could help.
The hole ended up proving to be a dark and scary place with ample room for a scared dog to hide out in. Instead of giving up, they pressed on, crawling down further into the darkness to try and locate the lost and possibly injured pooch.
The hole was a damp and nasty place full of spiders but the rescuers remain undeterred. They simply moved away the cobwebs and their inhabitants with some sticks and continued to search for the dog. They finally found her cowering in a corner, her leg injured.
She couldn’t run away from them. Carefully, they approached her, slowly letting her get acclimated to their presence. The little dog was starting to warm to them, and even let herself be hugged!
That one act of kindness turned the little pup – later named Cherry – into a whole new dog. The entire car ride to the vet’s she allowed herself to be cuddled, falling asleep in her rescuers’ arms. ”
At the vet, she received more good news in that nothing was broken, her paw was just badly bruised – probably a result of her fall. She was given treatments for parasites and then a much-needed bath.
Cherry went home with the Good Samaritans who stopped to help her, and they lovingly fostered her until it was time for her to find her forever home!
