A New York animal rescue is searching for foster homes so rescue dogs don’t have to spend the holidays alone.
Second Chance Rescue NYC Dogs has been searching tirelessly for fosters but said, “the well has been very dry lately.”
The rescue takes in some of the worst cases of neglected and abused animals and gives them a second chance. They are able to save hundreds of lives every year thanks to their amazing staff, volunteers, generous donors, fosters, and adopters.
We want to share an update with you on our dear boy Rusty. A few weeks ago, one of our volunteers in Mississippi…

But their phone never stops ringing about animals in need of saving.
The rescue is in desperate need of foster and posted a plea for help. They wrote, “It is challenging to place dogs this time of year. If you’re someone who has the ability, please be the miracle they need.”
Fostering not only saves lives but also increases the animal’s chances of being adopted. They are more relaxed in a home environment, which allows them to show off their great personality.
While the best gift would be a forever home, the rescue dogs would love to experience “the most wonderful time of the year” with a loving family.

A charming Bichon mix named Manfred is also searching for a soft and warm bed for the holidays. The friendly and “sassy little gumdrop” loves to go for walks, play fetch, and cuddle on the couch.
This sassy little gumdrop is MANFRED. A three-year-old Bichon mix with little legs and a big personality. Are you looking for a buddy to follow you around the house? Not in a clingy-creepy “let me wear your skin👹” kind of way, but a “glad we’re besties, let’s hang out💅” type of way, which is far more charming! He’s 12 bitty pounds, housebroken, loves to go on walks, and loves a good game of fetch. He’s also a big fan of relaxing and curling up on the couch at the end of the day😴📺. He enjoys meeting other pups when he’s strutting around town, and he’s currently available for adoption.🥳Not sure you’re ready for a lifetime commitment? We get it, don’t worry. Manfred is also in need of a FOSTER!!!If you’re interested in fostering or adopting lil man Manfred, visit us at NYCSecondChanceRescue.org and apply today! 🐾#BecauseTheyMatter

Check out all the available dogs and cats here.
Anyone who is interested in fostering is asked to fill out an application on the rescue’s website. The page also answers many frequently asked questions about fostering and provides the rescue’s foster home requirements.
Counselors help approved fosters find the dog or cat that would do well in their home environment.
All are welcome and encouraged to apply. “You can be a foster for a weekend, a week, or a month; it is totally on your terms, and we are here to support you the entire way. Please help us save more dogs by opening your heart and your home. It is the greatest gift you can give,” states the rescue.
Watch the video below of a current Second Chance Rescue foster, Nancy, explain why she fosters.
Foster Friday! Why does Nancy foster?Fostering is a crucial part of the animal rescue world and here is why:First things first, it literally SAVES lives. – Fostering highly increases an animal’s chance of getting adopted. Animals in foster care tend to be less stressed, better socialized, and have a lower chance of getting sick than animals in shelters. You may even be the first to teach your foster pet basic house manners, making them more appealing to potential adopters.– Fostering keeps animals out of boarding facilities and shelters, which can be stressful with the noise, barriers, lack of adequate exercise, etc.– Pets who might not thrive in a shelter setting have a chance to be healthy and happy. It also helps potential adopters see what a great personality the animal has in a home setting.– Some animals are not ready to be adopted immediately. In addition to needing extra love and care, they have to learn to trust people and live in a human environment. Foster parents help these animals by providing a temporary home until the animal is ready for adoption.– You feel good, your shelter or rescue group helps more animals, and your foster pet is happy, healthy, and well-socialized. Talk about win-win-win!Save a life and apply to become a foster today 🐶: www.nycsecondchancerescue.org/dog-foster-application/
