Dogs are known as man’s best friend, but they’re also sometimes thought of as angels. It’s not unheard of for a dog to save its owner or go out of its way to protect them from harm.
This was demonstrated on October 30, 2021, in Cumbria England. A 71-year-old man was enjoying a hike with his two dogs on a mountain trail, Braithwaite How. It seems things were going well, but then something horrible happened.
Shortly after passing another hiker, the 71-year-old man had a seizure, collapsed, and lost consciousness. It could’ve been the start of a tragic story, but the two dogs were not about to let anything happen to their owner.
As the Keswick Mountain Rescue Team shared on Facebook, one of the dogs, a black labrador, ran back up the trail to the hiker they had passed minutes prior.
The dog barked and barked, desperate to get the woman to turn around – and it worked. Once the woman and the black lab had returned, the other dog, a golden retriever, was lying by the unconscious man.
The woman immediately called the emergency line and a rescue team was deployed. Thankfully, the man gained his consciousness back by the time the rescuers arrived. They helped him walk down the mountain where an ambulance waited to take him to the hospital for an evaluation.
If it hadn’t been for his dogs’ heroic actions and the hiker willing to help, it’s unclear what might’ve happened!
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team shared that the entire rescue took 12 members and 1 hour to complete.
Dogs truly are man’s best friend – and occasionally, they double as angels.
