When AMA Animal Rescue took Rex in, he was on the brink of death. Abandoned with wounds all over his body, he was so weak, he couldn’t even stand on his own.

They rushed him to their vet, where he began treatment. The bite marks that covered him were a clear indication that he had been used as a bait dog.

Dog fighters use bait dogs to let their game dogs practice fighting. These bait dogs are usually non-aggressive, and end up getting severely harmed, and sometimes even killed.

Luckily, Rex was saved before it got that far. He was given proper treatment and put on a special diet to help him gain weight.

After a couple of months, Rex suddenly stopped eating and drinking. When he became lethargic, they rushed him to the emergency hospital, where they learned that he had an intestinal obstruction. Poor Rex couldn’t catch a break!

It turns out that Rex had swallowed a piece of rope that got wrapped around his intestines. He received life-saving surgery, and had to recover yet again.

He spent time healing in his foster home, while rescuers searched for his perfect forever home.

But they would soon realize that he was already where he belonged. Rex’s fosters loved him so much that they decided to permanently adopt him!
