Any cat owner will tell you that one of the funniest things about them is their curious, jumpy nature. While an uncomfortable cat can also be an upset or dangerous one, there’s something really funny about the way many cats react to the most innocuous things.

Case in point, a video shared by Vincent Francisco, via ViralHog, of his tuxedo cat, Mr. Peyton.

Mr. Peyton and his brother, a fellow tuxedo cat who definitely seems older and wiser, were filmed by Francisco on a typical day at his St. Petersburg home.

“Mr. Peyton was checking out the printer and had some funny moves to go along with the printer sounds,” Francisco captioned the video.

In the video, Mr. Peyton is curious about the noises of an inkjet printer that is shooting out pages of documents. Once it starts making a stuttering sound as it works through a page with a lot of graphs and ink, that curiosity turns into a high-alert reaction!

With each jolt of the printer, Mr. Peyton jerks his head backward like he’s dodging bullets, while his brother sits idly by, uninterested. Clearly, he’s already survived plenty of dangerous encounters with this foe and lived to tell the tale.

This is far from the only video of a cat facing down a printer. But why do cats react so strangely to printers?

It’s likely a combination of the unfamiliar and unpredictable sound, combined with the subtle smell of fresh, hot ink, and the vaguely menacing paper that inches out of the machine and onto the tray. I’m sure it would unnerve me if I were a cat who’d never seen it before!
