A couple traveling from Texas to Las Vegas had quite a surprise when they got to the airport and discovered a chihuahua hiding away in their luggage.

The couple, Jared and Kristi Owens, were at the Southwest counter in the Lubbock airport to check their bag when they learned it was around 6 pounds overweight.

In an interview with KCBD, Jared explained, “Really quickly we are like, ‘Oh, we have got to rearrange some stuff.’” However, they never could’ve guessed what was about to pop out of their bag when they did so.

He wrote, “You know it’s going to be an epic trip to Vegas when you get to the airport to check your bags….6lbs over weight, and out pops a chihuahua from your boot!! Unreal!”

Apparently, Icky is known to burrow herself into things. Owens shared in the KCDB interview, “She’s the burrower, that’s what she does. She burrows in clothes, she burrows in, obviously suitcases now.”

While discovering Icky could’ve been the end of their Vegas trip since they’d need to run her home and would miss their flight, a Southwest employee named Cathy Cook stepped up and offered to care for the pup.

Jared told KCBD that Cathy “went above and beyond and never made us feel, you know, they could have turned us in saying we were trying to smuggle a dog to Vegas or something.” Instead of being suspicious, Cathy was gracious and offered to watch the dog so they could catch their flight.

It’s a good thing they found the dog when they did because it’s unlikely he would’ve survived the trip in the suitcase!
