On October 1, 2021, FROMM Family Foods issued a voluntary recall of roughly 5,500 cases of Fromm Shredded can Entrée dog food due to elevated levels of Vitamin D.

The FDA warns that dogs of all sizes consuming very high levels of Vitamin D could have adverse reactions.

“The recall was initiated after we discovered, through our own analysis, that these products may contain elevated levels of Vitamin D,” stated the pet food company. They reassured consumers that no other products were impacted and said, “We have identified and isolated the error, and in addition to our existing safety process, we have put corrective actions into place to prevent this from happening again.”

No illnesses have been reported but consumers are urged to stop feeding the products listed below.

Symptoms Of Vitamin D Toxicity In Dogs

– vomiting
– decreased appetite
– weight loss
– increased drinking and urination
– excessively drooling

The FDA states, “Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, so unlike water-soluble vitamins, when a dog – or other animal – gets too much, the excess is not rapidly excreted in his or her urine. Instead, it’s stored in fat tissue and the liver. Excessive vitamin D can lead to kidney failure and even death.”

Symptoms can occur in a matter of hours or days.

If you have fed any of the recalled product and your pet is showing any of the above symptoms, call your vet immediately.
