The latest recall issued is not for dog food or treats, but dog food bowls.
On September 1, 2021, PetSmart voluntarily recalled 100,300 Top Paw® Double Diner Dog Bowl due to a “laceration hazard”, according to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The double dog bowls were sold at PetSmart from October 2017 through June 2021. Anyone who purchased the elevated bowls with a dog paw print on the front with SKU number 5270098 and UPC number 73725775404 are asked to stop using them immediately.
The recalled bowl can be brought to “your nearest PetSmart for a full refund,” states the pet supplies store.
The problem is “the gasket on the bottom of the dog bowls can come off, leaving an unfinished edge, posing a risk of laceration.”
The only incidents reported to Consumer Product Safety Commission were for three people who have suffered scratches or cuts from the unfinished edges of the bowls.
But apparently a dog was cut by the recalled bowl and needed stitches.
PetSmart posted the recall on their Facebook page and a dog owner responded by saying,”That’s what happened to my dog. He ended up at the emergency vet for stitches.”
