Animal shelters are always looking for new ways to find loving homes for shelter pets. A German animal shelter decided to try posting profiles of shelter dogs and cats on the popular online dating app, Tinder – and it was a huge success.
The Munich Animal Welfare Association (MAWA) had a local advertising agency take professional headshots of 15 dogs and cats and then posted them among the other single people looking for love.
Jillian Moss with MAWA told Reuters that countless people are swiping right, which means they’re interested and want to set up a first date. “The response is insane, it’s exploding everywhere,” she said.
A black and white cat named “Captain Kirk” quickly stole the hearts of many single humans. The shelter described the independent feline as a, “self-confident and agile cat is looking for a new home with cat-experienced new owners, where he can also enjoy freebies. He needs a lot of employment and attention so he shouldn’t have to stay alone all day.”

Tinder states they have over 55 billion matches to date, so the shelter thought why not try it for shelter pets.
“Sometimes you have to take unconventional ways to achieve your goals. And that’s exactly what we do,” posted the shelter.
After all, dogs and cats offer unconditional love and isn’t that what we are all searching for?
Benjamin Beilke, who is handling all the Tinder communications, said he hopes the animals find their “purrfect match” and forever home. “There aren’t only lonely souls among humans, but there are also a lot of lonely souls among animals.”
If a match is found, the person is invited to the shelter to meet the pet and undergo an “intense get-together phase”. The dedicated staff hope many shelter pets find their person through the app.
