Orangutans are intelligent animals and share 96.4% of our genes, so it should come as no surprise that one knew just what to do with a pair of sunglasses accidentally dropped in its enclosure.
Lola Testu was visiting a zoo in Indonesia and observing the great apes when she dropped her sunglasses. She thought they were gone for good until she saw the orangutan get up and head over to them.
She was shocked when the ape picked up the broken sunglasses and put them on. Onlookers were in awe and laughed as the female orangutan played around with the shades.
Who says there is only one way to wear sunglasses?!
The female ape tried the glasses on upside down, inside out, and then the ‘correct’ way. All the while her curious baby was grabbing for them, but never succeeded.

Mom managed to keep the new item to herself until she tired of it.
When the fun wore off, the orangutan chucked the sunglasses back towards the wall.
A zookeeper tossed her a handful of lettuce, which she appeared disappointed by.
One person wrote what she thought the ape was thinking, “She said I did all that and all you throw me is lettuce?!”
Testu shared the hilarious and unbelievable moment on TikTok with the caption, “So I’m down a pair of sunglasses but up a very good story.” It instantly went viral. At the time of writing, over 42 million people have viewed the video.
