On Wednesday, Gaona opened her mailbox and saw a pair of “sweet eyes” looking back at her. The frightened puppy was crying after being left all alone in the hot metal box. The door was latched so no air or light was getting in.

The 6-week-old puppy was taken in by Baldwin County Animal Shelter and will eventually be put up for adoption.
Gaona said she sees numerous stray dogs along her road but never imagined someone would put an innocent puppy in her mailbox. She encourages people to ask for help if they are unable to care for their pet.
Thankfully, the puppy was unharmed and will find a loving forever home.
Abandoning a pet is never a solution. If you are unable to care for your pet, please contact your local shelter. Many shelters have programs or offer resources to help keep loved pets with families that have fallen on hard times.
