Chuck Campbell’s curiosity saved a litter of newborn kittens.

The 85-year-old man was driving down a country road in North Carolina when he spotted a paper bag on the side of the road. He pulled over and unfolded the bag, and was shocked to find five newborn kittens inside.

They were huddled together and gasping for air.

He knew he needed to find help and fast, so he contacted the SPCA of Wake County.

Sadly, one kitten passed away. The remaining four brown tabbies were named Crow, Raven, Magpie, and Jackdaw and are now thriving.

For the first few weeks, they received round-the-clock care with feedings every couple of hours. A devoted foster family took the kittens in and showered them with love. They dubbed the little felines “The Blackbird Kittens” and shared their recovery on Instagram.

The shelter wrote, “Now six weeks old, the kittens are healthy, thriving, and nearly ready for adoption!” The playful kittens love to snuggle and give kisses but all have their own unique personalities.

Jackdaw is the “bad boy with a big heart”, Raven loves to give kisses, Magpie is shy but super photogenic, and Crow is the loud and demanding one.

Campbell prays they all find loving forever homes. He said the way they were carelessly abandoned and left for dead made him “want to cry.”
