It doesn’t matter how many times we are told that pets should not be left in a locked car, there are going to be those who choose to ignore it. Perhaps they don’t believe that it’s true or maybe they just think that they are going to be back before any harm is done.
On occasion, we hear stories about dogs that die in a parked car, helping to further emphasize the need to care for them properly. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case in this story but it very well could have been.
It happened in Sarasota when police responded to the reports of a dog locked inside a vehicle that was turned off. When Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services arrived on the scene, the dog was “panting and drooling all over the place” so they decided to break a window.

The temperature was 115 degrees inside of the vehicle, so there was no time to lose.
In the end, the pet owner got two citations from animal services.
They claim that they left the car running, but that wasn’t true. This led the police to give a public reminder that you should: “Always remember to look before you lock for pets, children, and elderly loved ones.”
