We do our best to protect the animals under our care but sometimes, things happen and we are left to pick up the pieces.

It seems as if that is what happened in Idaho when a family dog was found shot in the head with a pellet gun in their backyard.

It seems as if Dixie, their dog, was always safe in the backyard. She loved being out there by the pool, relaxing in the shade, and just waiting until her family got back home again.

Unfortunately, while Abbi was working, somebody shot Dixie three times with a pellet gun.

It wasn’t bad enough that the dog was shot but then she had to be in the backyard suffering until help arrived. Dixie was rushed to a veterinarian in the local area for emergency treatment but unfortunately, there was no helping her so the difficult decision was made to put her to sleep.

Abbi said: “It’s scary to think that in a subdivision, especially in a small community, you have to worry about keeping your dogs outside. Something just hit somebody and they’re like okay, I’m going to shoot this dog today. You know, you never know what’s going to happen.”
