MuttNation Foundation was founded by Miranda Lambert and her mom, Bev Lambert, in 2009 to support rescues and help shelter pets find loving homes. After an unprecedented year, the nonprofit just announced they will be helping animal shelters across the country in a big way – with a $250,000 donation.
MuttNation’s Mutts Across America program provides support to animal shelters in all 50 states. Since its launch in 2015, the program has provided over $1.25 million in grants to more than 350 shelters. But this year’s campaign is bigger than ever thanks to support from Tractor Supply Company.
One animal shelter in each state will be surprised with a $5,000 grant.
“Mutts Across America resonates with all animal lovers because it shines a light on the special work that these outstanding shelters do in their communities,” Lambert told the Tennessean. “And, this year, thanks to Tractor Supply’s generous support, we’ve been able to increase our grants … which is amazing. A quarter-million dollars in grants — that will help a whole lot of mutts.”
The grants are awarded to an animal shelter or foster-based rescue after they have been researched and vetted by MuttNation. There is no application process as the grants are a complete surprise.
The list of recipients was posted on Instagram on Thursday with the caption, “These shelters are heroes and they work so hard every day to give shelter pets a better life. We’re so proud to recognize their incredible work!”
“While the pandemic really opened people’s hearts and homes to adopting and fostering in record numbers, shelters were unable to hold their regular fundraising events, which left a big gap,” Lambert said. “We know that these funds will help shelters continue to provide a great environment for their pets, employees, volunteers and the communities at-large that they serve.”
The country music star has rescued countless animals and encourages her millions of fans to do the same. After losing her beloved rescue dog, Waylon, Lambert decided to expand her MuttNation Fund to “support people with senior pets in need of medical care, as well as pets injured by natural disasters.”
