“Men, in particular, can be seen as committed and trustworthy when they are seen with a pet. In some case studies, men with dogs are more likely to be approached as they are found to be charming and appealing. Having a pet also assures a potential partner that you are capable of taking care of another creature,” she said.
It seems that some people are already clued to this since they’re many reported already using their pets as wingmen (or wingwomen). Beyond that, 50% of people reported that they’re fine with using their dog as a “ploy” to gain the attention of a potential mate.
The survey asked all participants which dating apps are best for meeting other dog lovers, Tinder was the most popular choice with 29% of participants choosing it. 17% of people chose Match and 13% chose Bumble.
The participants were also asked which breeds of dogs they like to see most on other peoples’ dating profiles and the top five choices included German shepherds, pit bulls, huskies, labs, and golden retrievers. Followed closely behind the top five were American bulldogs, Pomeranians, and poodles.
It’s clear that having a dog on your dating profile makes you a better candidate for being matched with. And as the survey found, some people are even willing to borrow a dog to make it happen! 24% of male participants said they would borrow a friend’s dog to put on their dating profile.
However, if that’s a strategy you’re interested in using, it’s important to be honest about who the dog belongs to. According to the survey, 64% of people said they would stop dating someone if they lied about owning a dog in their dating profile.
