Over the past few weeks, many states have experienced extreme winter storms and freezing temperatures.

That was true in Missouri, where temperatures hit record lows. The state experienced power outages, heavy snowfall, and icy winds. While it was a tough storm for many residents to get through, there were some who seemed to be enjoying the cold!

Penguins were caught on camera enjoying a snow day away from their aquarium, and they were too cute!

The Wonders of Wildlife Aquarium is based in Springfield, Missouri, and houses the adventurous penguin named Paverick, Reese, and Dora. The aquarium, the “largest, most immersive fish and wildlife attraction in the world,” allowed the penguins to leave their enclosure and go out and enjoy the Missouri snow.

The best part of all is the whole thing was caught on video! In the video, you can see the penguins breathing in the fresh air, hopping around in the snow, and shaking the snow on their wings. It’s clear that they’re really enjoying the experience.

The three gentoo penguins are no stranger to cold temperatures. According to Oceana, “Gentoo penguins are native to sub-Antarctic islands where chilly temperatures allow for ideal breeding, foraging and nesting conditions.”

As the aquarium shared on Instagram, “This was an excellent enrichment activity for our birds. The Gentoo penguins are native to Antarctica, so this was a great opportunity to get them outside!”

They further said that they wouldn’t hesitate to let the birds back outside if heavy snowfall occurred again. At least that’s one thing to look forward to with future winter storms!
