Life can be difficult for dogs living in a shelter, especially senior dogs or those that may have some underlying issues. At times, they may spend many years at the shelter and that was the case for one dog in Godfrey, Illinois named Wiggles.

Although Wiggles was only 3 years old when she came to the shelter, she was 14 by the time she was adopted.

Her life at the 5As Animal Shelter was not exactly difficult. She had a lot of attention, good food, and a backyard where she could run around. The one thing she was missing was a home.

One of the dog trainers at the shelter, Karla Crane, spoke about the family that gave Wiggles a forever home, saying that they could not have asked for anyone better. She even went so far as to call them “perfect,” according to KCRA 3.

According to the news outlet, she spoke about Wiggles when she first arrived at the shelter, admitting that she was not very nice. She didn’t do well with other dogs or humans, so she continued to be overlooked time after time when people came in to adopt a dog.

It took some time, but eventually, Wiggles got comfortable being around people. She also went through some difficulties at the shelter, including a benign tumor in 2016. That tumor grew to the size of a cantaloupe over the years but the shelter did not operate because Wiggles was at risk due to her age.

Unfortunately, Wiggles continued to be overlooked because of the tumor as well as some food allergies and medication she was taking. The shelter continued to provide her with what she needed, but they were having difficulty finding a forever home.

Finally, the right family came along and adopted Wiggles. She is living in Missouri with a couple who provides all of her needs.
