When a soldier in the Belarusian army, Pyotr Pankratau, found a little baby squirrel who was on death’s door, he knew he had to help. Rather than turn his back on the little tiny critter in need, Pyotr took him in and nursed him back to health.
He was very dedicated to his new little friend by nursing the little baby squirrel by feeding it milk with a syringe.
He bonded with the little buddy, eventually giving him the name Masik. He took Masik everywhere in the army with him. And when the time came for Pyotr to leave the army, Masik came with him.
Together, they embarked on Pyotr’s next job as a taxi driver. Masik is his constant companion and the two are inseparable in and out of their taxi driving gig.

According to euroradio.fm, Pyotr explained, “Masik has a standard route at home, too – eating, then sleeping, from the kitchen to either under the blanket or to the wardrobe. He likes to sleep with me, close to my neck. He is very independent. There are no better animals.”
Pyotr did have one scare though when Masik ran away. Luckily, he didn’t go far. According to the station, Pyotr shared that Masik ran up a tree for a little while and then came back down. But it turns out that the squirrel isn’t a big fan of trees.
After the incident, Pyotr tried to see if he’d enjoy climbing a tree again, but apparently, the little rodent was “totally frightened and trembled all over.” So, it seems that trees just aren’t his thing.
While Masik might spend all his time in the taxi with Pyotr, the taxi driver doesn’t always tell his passengers that they’re sharing a car with an adorable little rodent. The reason? Pyotr doesn’t see the need to constantly disturb Masik with meeting new people. However, he will bring Masik out for a meet-and-greet if there are ever any kids in the car.
The loving squirrel owner has stressed that he watches his beloved pet “constantly” when he’s in the taxi with him.
