Losing weight is a common New Year’s resolution and one that is easier to accomplish with a workout buddy. An overweight shelter cat is looking for a family willing to embark on a weight loss journey with her.

Molico, a 14-year-old tortie, is a ‘BIG’ cat weighing in at 23 pounds. Her previous owner simply fed her too much and she is now on a strict diet. Her ideal home would be with a loving family that will spoil her with fun games and attention, not treats.

“A cat of her breed and age should weigh about 10 pounds. Although her personality and squishiness is well admired, her New Year’s resolution is to live with a family that will support her in a new exercise and weight loss journey,” posted Hawaiian Humane Society.

Dr. Kasey Carter, Chief Veterinarian at the shelter, said, “I really like her personality – she is nervous in the shelter and likes to hide, but once you hold her, she is super sweet and chirps/talks pretty funny.”

The adorable feline gets along with other cats and loves attention from her humans. She is currently lounging at Hawaiʻi Cat Café waiting for her special someone to walk through the door.

Cindy Washburn, owner of the cat cafe, told KHON, “She has a lot of personality even though she’s huge! She loves to be pet, she’ll start drooling when you’re scratching her chin she doesn’t mind other cats at all.”

Her weight loss journey will take time, so Molico needs a motivated family who will give her small meals and encourage her to exercise through play and food toys.

“She’s a really good cat if you need someone to do squats with, and you can lose weight together!” Washburn said. “Maybe she’ll chase a laser or two.”

Hawaiʻi Cat Café has partnered with Hawaiian Humane Society and helped over 1,000 cats and kittens find forever homes. But their work is far from over.

The cafe serves handcrafted beverages and European-style pastries while also creating an environment that allows people to interact with adoptable felines.

The cafe has even come up with unique and fun experiences people can book with the cats, including: cat yoga, card games, movies, and much more. Their goal is to ‘adopt as many kitties as possible into loving forever homes.’

Anyone interested in adopting Molico can make a reservation to spend time with her on the cafe’s website. Adopt don’t shop!
