A sweet dog named Adik and his owner, Irina, have endured unimaginable abuse while being held hostage for eight months by Russian forces in Ukraine.
United for Animals (UfA) shared the heartbreaking story with Greater Good Charities and asked for support to help Adik get around.
Adik was viewed by the Russians as a “trophy” of war and severely mistreated. UfA said, “This enemy shows no mercy even towards such defenseless creatures like animals.”
When Adik was finally released along with his mother, he was unable to walk on his own.
“The physical and psychological traumas inflicted by harsh conditions significantly worsened his condition. He desperately needed a special wheelchair to enjoy walks and an active life again with his owner,” stated UfA.
Adik received his cart and can go on walks again with his mom, thanks in part to your support. The light has returned to Adik’s eyes as he is able to enjoy the fresh air and sends his thanks.
While the walks are therapeutic for them both, the cart also allows Adik to attend rallies with his mom to advocate for the release of Irina’s husband and son from captivity. These brave souls are an inspiration to us all.
UfA shared the story on Facebook and wrote, “Even in the most difficult times for our people, we all show that nothing can break Ukrainians!”
