We were in the process of rescuing 12 cats from a horrific hoarding situation and bringing them back to our rescue. As we examined the last cat we picked up the “empty” carrier and noticed it felt quite heavy. We peeked inside and there was another cat. She was skinny and scrawny, but immediately began to purr. It was then that we named her Tagalong.
During her exam, it was determined that not only was she emaciated, she was also FIV+. It is extremely difficult to adopt out adult cats, never mind one who is FIV+. Because Tagalong was FIV+, she needed to be kept separate from the other cats in her foster home. Because Tagalong loved other cats so much, we noticed the separation was causing her to become depressed.
We called a previous adopter who had adopted two FIV + cats from us during our Clear the Shelters event in 2018. We asked her if she would consider adopting Tagalong and she replied “absolutely!” Tagalong was picked up that weekend and went home with her new family. She is now enjoying the company of the other cats in her home as well as getting lots of cuddling from her humans. She has even picked a spot on the table to join them during their morning cup of coffee.
