2020 has been a wild ride and we could have done without most of what this year brought. However, there has been one bright side. With so many people spending more time at home, more cats ended up being adopted.

Some shelters are receiving so much demand, they are struggling to find enough pets to go around. This is a very welcome change from the usual issues that are being faced by these facilities. Of course, once a kitten or cat is adopted, there’s just one thing left to do: name the little feline. As anyone who has named a pet, or even a child, can tell you, this task is often easier said than done.

If you need some inspiration for choosing that perfect cat name, or if you’re just curious what others have chosen, check out the list of the most popular cat names of 2020. Pet marketplace, Rover, created the list based on data they collected. Some of them are not going to be surprising at all, while others may shock you a bit.

As you might have expected, there was a major rise in cat names inspired by food. We have all been turning to sandwiches as a form of comfort food as we try our best to make our way through the pandemic. Croissant, Bread, Sandwich, and Rye have all been making their way up the lists, as comical as that may be.

If you really want to laugh, there are some folks out there who have been coming up with names that are inspired by cannabis, like Hash, Cheeba, Ganja, Indica, and Mary Jane.
