I was working at the local rescue when my boss called me and asked if I could stay after my shift for a few minutes until she got there. When she arrived, she had a small kitten in her hands. I definitely wasn’t looking for any more cats, but she told me there was something special about this kitten and put her on the ground.

She couldn’t walk. All she did was flop from side to side. I immediately said I would take her and brought her home. We learned she had been born to a feral mom who had no prenatal care and lived the first five months of her life in the vet’s office.

As a result of her lack of care in utero, our little Pretzel had been born with Cerebellar Hypoplasia, a condition where the cerebellum is underdeveloped, causing balance and coordination problems.

To this day, Pretzel continues to improve: learning how to climb chairs, onto the bed and even up most of our five foot scratching posts! She gets along with all the members of our household and goes with us on every vacation.

Having a CH cat can be a challenge. I clean more poop off the floor and furniture than I ever thought possible! But her sweetness and determination inspire me to remember that no matter what obstacles you’re faced with, anything can be overcome with the right attitude! And my husband and I both look forward to many more years with our girl and future special needs kitties that will find their way into our household!
