Love at first sight or encounter is real, especially when it involves a dog.

Wayne and his family were visiting Asheville, North Carolina, and decided to head to the historic Biltmore Estate for a tour. They left with the best souvenir of all.

The Massachusetts family was taking in the beautiful grounds at the estate when they ran into the Mountain Mutts group walking dogs available for adoption at Asheville Humane Society. Mountain Mutts is a shelter program to help energetic dogs get the exercise they need and time away from the shelter. Shelter dogs are paired up with volunteers to go for a 2-4 mile hike on Wednesday mornings.

The family, who already shares their home with an Australian shepherd, couldn’t resist saying hello to the dogs. Wayne and his family were drawn to a dog named Grover, who appears to be a Basenji mix, and it was love at first encounter. There was only one thing left to do – and that was for Wayne to cancel his flight home.

He adopted Grover and rented a car to drive him home to Massachusetts. The shelter posted the happy news on Facebook and wrote, “Grover hit the jackpot with this chance meeting.” He loves his new family and gets along well with his canine sibling.

It was meant to be. The inspiring story has gone viral, and people are thrilled for Grover and thank his new family for adopting. As if the story couldn’t get any better, the person who found Grover as a stray commented, “This is awesome news!!! I am the one who found Grover and took him to the humane society. I am so happy to hear this news and know he is in a great family situation!!!”

Be sure to share this love story with your friends and family. There are so many animals looking for their happily ever after. Check out all the adoptable pets at Asheville Humane Society here.
