As staff and volunteers at The Gentle Barn, animal sanctuaries for abused animals, mourn the loss of beloved rescue cow, Faith, her memory lives on in their hearts and with her beloved bouncy ball that has recently brought comfort to a new rescued cow.
Faith was rescued by The Gentle Barn California in 2008 with a severe eye infection that went untreated and resulted in her going blind. She adapted to her new life without her sight and took comfort in a large bouncy ball that was always by her side. The staff shared that she would “cry” if the ball rolled away from her and she was unable to find it. It was her “baby”.
Faith was showered with love and provided the best care but ultimately developed eye cancer that took her life. Staff shared, “Throughout her life, she had growths on her eyes that had to be removed and eventually her right eye was taken over by cancer. Now a senior, her cancer returned and while she fought hard, it sadly spread and it was time to say goodbye.”
The sanctuary shared the heartbreaking news on TikTok but also shared how her special ball is being put to good use.

A newly rescued cow named Rosalie has “fallen in love with the ball” and keeps it by her side like her “baby”. Rosalie has found comfort in the big ball as she begins her new life at the sanctuary. Just like Faith, she was taken away from her mother at birth and also had her calf taken away from her.
The sanctuary shared that Rosalie was rescued by another animal organization after her calf was taken and sold. She was brought to The Gentle Barn to be among other cows and heal her broken heart. The first thing she did when she arrived was walk over to Faith’s ball.
Ever since, the ball has not left her side. Staff and volunteers are doing all they can to help Rosalie forget her painful past and learn to trust humans. “Rosalie never got over the loss of her daughter and was grieving deeply when she came to us. With the help of her new herd, Faith’s giant bouncy ball, reading to her, singing to her, animal communication, energy healing, and patience, Rosalie is starting to heal. We will spend the rest of her life helping her forgive, trust, and find joy, peace, and love,” her caretakers posted.
Grab a tissue and watch as Rosalie discovers Faith’s beloved ball in the barnyard in the video below.
@thegentlebarn Our new rescue cow Rosalie has found comfort in a very special ball Rosalie was purchased at auction at six months old and was bred on a farm, where she had a baby who was sold. She was later rescued by Love Always Sanctuary where she was loved and cared for but without a herd, so we worked with Love Always to bring Rosalie to The Gentle Barn California. After our cow Faith passed, we kept her beloved ball as founder Ellie Laks felt it needed to stay in the barnyard, and Rosalie went right to it when she arrived! Rosalie never got over the loss of her daughter and was grieving deeply when she came to us. With the help of her new herd, Faith’s giant bouncy ball, reading to her, singing to her, animal communication, energy healing, and patience, Rosalie is starting to heal. We will spend the rest of her life helping her forgive, trust, and find joy, peace, and love.
