As we enter the season of hearty meals with our family, there are animals out there without hearty meals, or a family. As shelter pets wait for their forever homes, we can at least give them nutritious food in the meantime. This holiday season, we’re aiming to provide 3 million meals to shelter pets, and we could use your help.
Greater Good Charities and The Animal Rescue Site are hosting our annual pet food drive to mark GivingTuesday, and a $25 donation will fund meals for 500 shelter pets! This won’t only feed the animals in crowded shelters, it will also free up money to care for more pets and provide more essential services, like medical care, vaccines, and adoption programs. With an average of 6.5 million pets entering animal shelters each year, there are so many that need our help.
HELP FEED SHELTER PETS
This effort builds on work we’ve done throughout the year, with The Animal Rescue Site and Freekibble funding more than 16 million bowls of food for shelter pets. About 1.5 million of those bowls were funded during National Feed a Rescue Pet Week alone. It wasn’t just food, though. During the Shelter Bowl in February, held alongside the somewhat bigger bowl in football, we raised money for nearly 1.6 million pets.
As ever, this has been thanks to you, with your donations, as well as your clicks on The Animal Rescue Site and the new Click for Paws site, shopping in our store, and answering trivia questions on Freekibble and Trivia to Give.
You’ve also supported numerous Flights to Freedom this year, which have helped hundreds of pets from crowded shelters fly to rescues with space and much better adoption prospects; you’ve provided medical treatments for pets in dire need of funding; and you’ve sponsored pets with care packages that provide food, beds, and vaccines.
None of our work would be possible without you, and the millions of pets you’ve helped this year have you to thank. As you and your furry friends tuck into your Thanksgiving meal and hearty leftovers over the coming days, we know we can count on you to continue to think of those pets in need of equally nourishing food.
