Fostering is rewarding, but it can be hard for a reason not shared as often. When animals come from a horrific situation like an extremely overwhelmed hoarding home, where it isn’t known who is alive, sick, injured, or dead, our crisis mode determination to not only save the lives left, but to rally those lives for good, kicks into high gear!

Mattie’s extreme health condition required a well-suited foster home for her needs. Thrillingly, Mattie did rally, heal, recover, improve, and move into enjoying true cat life! Now Mattie is in what can be a tough period for the foster family. Cats like Mattie are now considered “safe” by those looking to adopt because she is in a loving, providing, knowledgeable foster home. What about the next cat that needs that home now? What about the foster family whose heart breaks because they know their fabulous recovered foster deserves a family that falls in love with their foster kitty?

It is well known in the rescue community that safe is the priority, but that thriving with a full family life is the ultimate goal that can slip away as the flood of cats and kittens in need flows dangerously high. Please carry Mattie in your heart while sharing her story so she can make that love connection needed to get adopted! Here’s her adoption profile:

Mattie is a very sweet and beautiful one-year-old girl. She started life in a hoarding situation with a double eye infection that ruined her beautiful eyes. She has limited vision but can still get around great, and she loves to play with her toys and chase the mouse and Dixie cups. She can climb the cat trees, get on the couch, and pretty much do everything a normal cat can do.

She gets along great with other cats and dogs and does require another cat as an companion; she would get very lonely without another cat as a friend. She was raised with lots of other cats and dogs in her household and feels best in a house with other loving cats. Mattie is a talker and will call you when she is looking for you or will talk to her toys.

Mattie was very sick when she first came to us and needed several weeks of medical care, and she still needs to be fed three times a day. Her foster mom feeds her morning, dinner and second dinner before she goes to bed. She will not eat dry food. She also drinks a lot of water; we suspect there was a shortage of fresh water where she was living. We have done blood work recently and it all looks great now, and we are hoping that she has a long life ahead of her. If she has additional medical needs and you are local, we are happy to get her into our vet at our cost.

If you think you and your pets can welcome Mattie into your pack, apply to adopt her here!
