We had always thought we were “dog people.” After our second dog passed away in 2010, we went pet-less for a while. One night in December 2010, a cat showed up in our driveway and promptly “adopted” us! Milo was with us for three short years before he died unexpectedly early in 2014. We were devastated. We knew, though, that Milo had shown us that cats are cool, too!
About a month after he died, we started looking at kitties at local shelters, determined that any animal we got would come from a shelter. We really wanted two kitties so that they could keep each other company.

While visiting the shelter near our house, we came upon three kittens who had just been placed for adoption after a bout with upper respiratory infections. We kept thinking, “We can’t have three cats!”
After a couple of days of talking and soul-searching, we decided that there was no way we could separate those three litter mates; we would adopt all three. They were almost four months old and had been together all that time.
So I marched into the shelter as soon as they opened the morning of March 18, 2014 and asked if all three were still available. I was told, “Yes!” I took the three little kitties home and they have been joys for us ever since.
We named them Maddie, Ben, and Jerry. (the picture was taken the day we brought them home) Three cats are not too many! It’s just the right amount of fun and love!
