Meet Lena.

The 5-month-old kitten was found barely surviving by a volunteer for the Tampa Bay rescue, Rescue Pets of Florida. She arrived with a fractured jaw and was unable to open her mouth to eat.

Lena weighed just 1.8 pounds and the rescue rushed her to the emergency clinic to be examined.

Even though she was in pain and clearly starving, she purred the entire time like she knew she was finally going to get the help she needed.

The rescue shared, “Lena is full of energy and a purr machine! She eats 4 packs of TikiCat mousse a day to survive. She is a really messy eater. But she loves her food.”

Without treatment, her jaw will fuse shut and she will be unable to eat. Lena needs reconstructive oral surgery which will cost over $5,000.

The rescue reached out to Greater Good Charities’ Emergency Animal Medical fund to help cover Lena’s medical expenses. The fund is able to help shelter pets like Lena thanks to your continued support.

Her prognosis for a full recovery is good. After she recovers from the surgery she will be put up for adoption. “Given how friendly she is, we have no doubt she will be adopted and be an inside only cat once she has recovered.”

Pets receiving critical care facilitated by an Emergency Animal Medical grant may not be eligible for adoption until they have completed their course of treatment. If you would like to inquire about adoption of a specific animal, we strongly encourage you to visit the shelter’s specific website first as that is often the most up to date place to learn about available pets and review the adoption policies and process. Check out Rescue Pets of Florida’s website to see all adoptable pets.

Help us meet our goal of $5,200 to heal Lena’s jaw. Your support will not only give her the hope to keep fighting, but your donations will help cover her ongoing care.
