I have always been a cat person. I’ve always owned dogs, but I didn’t understand or didn’t get what other people saw in dogs.

Dogs were just there, and I cared for them, but they didn’t hold the same spot in my heart as a cat. One day I was looking through the animals at the local shelter, and I saw this black and white face looking back at me.

Because it was later in the night and I knew the shelter was closed, I told my husband that I was going to see this animal. He could either come with me or not, but I was going.

Long story short, Kipper, as he was called then, came home with us. It took a while, but Elvis became Elvis. And he has made me a believer.

Elvis was found on the streets in Louisiana and brought up to Denver for adoption. It was the best decision I have ever made. He has comforted me through the loss of three cats, my husband, COVID, and moving clear across the country to New York.

He is still here by my side every day, and he is a mama’s boy. I now work at a pet supply store, and Elvis is allowed to go to work with me. He wouldn’t have it any other way. I don’t know what I’m going to do without him. He has truly gotten me through so much.
