Celebrating birthday parties is a fun tradition that many people enjoy throughout the year. Sometimes, life gets in the way and it can be hard to make it to every birthday party we’re invited to. Others time, though, we choose not to go for whatever reason.
When a 28-year-old woman was invited to her brother’s birthday party, she had a stipulation: She’d only attend if her dog was invited too.
The woman turned to the popular subreddit r/AmItheA*shole to ask if she was in the wrong or not.
She explained that her three-year-old German Shepherd named Lou is “the sweetest dog” ever but she suffers from separation anxiety.
The woman insisted that leaving Lou “home alone for more than an hour simple isn’t possible.”
Her 39-year-old brother and his 42-year-old wife allegedly stepped on Lou’s tail, which scared the dog. The brother said that the dog wasn’t invited to the party because his wife feared she’d be too aggressive to be around guests.
The woman said:
“I told my brother I could either a) bring Lou and keep her on leash at all times, or b) take Lou with me and take turns with my mum walking her around the neighbor so I could be able to stay a bit without his wife having to face my dog or c) come over (with Lou in the car) to congratulate him and bring over his present but leave shortly afterwards as I don’t want her to be alone in the car for more than 15 minutes.”
Her brother didn’t like any of those options and made it clear that the dog wasn’t welcome on his property.
The woman wrote, “I apologized and told him if that was the case, I wouldn’t be able to come at all. He has told me he’s disappointed but especially my SIL has been bombarding me with texts about how I was selfish for putting my dog before my brother, and that I was an AH of a sister to do that to him on his 40th birthday.”
The woman ultimately wanted to know if she was in the wrong.
The opinions of people on Reddit were mixed, but many said that it was her life and her dog, so it was up to her.
