A dog who was stolen from his owner over two years ago is finally back home with his family.
The dog’s owner, River Woods, shared with The Animal Rescue Site that it all started when someone he knew stole his dog, Bobo, and gave him away. He searched for the dog’s new owner to get him back, but he came up empty handed.
Months passed, and eventually a year went by. River was starting to lose hope that he’d ever see his dog again. But then, two years after the dog was stolen, a friend sent River a photo of a dog at the Del Norte County Animal Control that looked exactly like Bobo.
Dogs of Del Norte County, a volunteer group that works with animal control, shared on Facebook that the dog arrived at the shelter in June 2022. He exhibited signs of abuse and was particularly wary of men.
In December of that same year, Dogs of Del Norte received a message from a man located some 200 miles away claiming that it was his dog.
River explained, “It looked just like my dog, so I called in and I told them that they had my dog. And they wanted proof, so I sent them a bunch of pictures of [Bobo] and I let them know that he was missing a lower canine. And if they checked they’d know that that was my dog.”

Dogs of Del Norte shared in the post that, given Bobo’s hesitancy toward men, volunteers offered to drive Bobo the 200 miles to meet River, “in the event the reunion did not go well.”
Thankfully, “Bobo immediately knew his person.” You can see their reunion in a sweet video here.
It’s been around six months since Bobo has been back home with River, and they couldn’t be happier to be back together. River raised Bobo from the time he was a young puppy.
He’ll be turning 8 years old on September 10, 2023. Despite their time apart, River and Bobo are happy to be reunited so they can enjoy Bobo’s golden years together.
“So far, he’s adjusted back just fine. He remembers me and the kids and everybody, and he’s just enjoying his retirement, as I call it,” River said.
