A Houston, Texas animal rescuer named Samantha knows the heartbreaking truth about pet abandonment. It’s a huge issue in Houston and other areas of Texas and she’s doing everything in her power to help.
Animal abandonment is a heartbreaking reality that can have devastating consequences for the animals involved. Abandoned animals are often left without food, water, or shelter, and are forced to fend for themselves in dangerous and unfamiliar environments.

The physical and emotional toll of abandonment can also be profound, as animals are left confused, scared, and vulnerable without their human caregivers.
One sweet dog discarded at a donation bin in Houston was definitely suffering from neglect and abandonment. Samantha shared about the dog, Gracie, on Instagram saying that the poor thing was covered in a skin infection and fleas. Gracie was all alone, but clinging to the last bit of familiarity she seemed to have left: a stuffed cow.
Samantha wrote of her:
“Another discarded dog. A plea put out at 10pm of a small girl left at a donation bin with her stuffies. She is itching nonstop from a skin infection. Probably from fleas. The suffering in Houston is never ending. Ps. She is safe.”
In a TikTok video, Samantha showed that Gracie was terrified and wouldn’t allow them to approach, so they set up a trap for her.
After successfully catching her, they made sure to return for the stuffed cow as well.
“We weren’t going to leave her stuffed cow behind,” Samantha captioned the video.

Since posting the video, many people wanted to know how little Gracie was doing and Samantha shared in the comments that “she is resting a lot and eating well.”
She received a bath and is getting treatment for her skin condition. Hopefully she’ll be ready to find a loving forever home in no time!
