In the early morning hours of March 20, volunteers and staff from Louisiana animal shelters and Greater Good Charities (GGC) braved the wind and cold to help transport 55 lucky dogs out of the overcrowded shelters and to a Flight to Freedom.
Our own Tim Lightell, media producer for GreaterGood, was on the ground at New Orleans airport to capture the excitement of the dogs as they started the journey to their new lives. One by one the dogs were loaded onto the flight as their caretakers wished them well.
Dogs like Sully who was found as a stray in Louisiana will finally get to experience a home of his own. He couldn’t stop wagging his tail as people called his name as he boarded the flight.
Once all the dogs were on board, the final step was to cover the pet carriers with warm blankets to keep the dogs comfortable during the flight to New Jersey.
This lifesaving flight was possible thanks to your support.
Check out the video below of the dogs boarding the flight.
Every month, along with our non-profit partner GGC, we fly at-risk shelter pets from overcrowded shelters in the South to shelters with open space and adopters waiting to meet them. Dogs like Jimbo, Sparky, and Hunter thank you for your donations and cannot wait to meet their new families.
Erin Robbins with GGC’s GoodFlights urges everyone to adopt, foster, or volunteer as shelters across the country are overflowing with adoptable pets.
Watch as the final dogs are loaded onto the plane and listen to Erin’s plea in the video below.
Rebecca from Iberville Parish Animal Shelter, where many of the shelter pets come from, wanted to thank you all for your support that saves lives. All shelter dogs have a story and while some are more intriguing, they all deserve a happy ending.
Help us save even more shelter pets by donating to our next Flight to Freedom!
