Something unusual was found in the woods near the East End of London, Ontario. There was a tent, which wasn’t unusual on its own, but it had “Help, There’s a dog left here,” spray-painted on the outside.
Some hikers had seen the tent near the Pottersburg Dog Park and they decided to take a closer look. When they unzipped the tent, there was a brown and black dog on the inside and they wanted to help.
The hikers contacted the Bark at the Moon Animal Rescue and the founder, Shelby Tilley, didn’t hesitate. She came out to rescue the dog and shared a video on TikTok of what she found.
When speaking with CBC news, she said that it appeared as if the dog had been alone for quite a while. There was a water bowl inside but it was brown and murky and the dog had relieved itself in the tent numerous times.
Tilley rescued the dog and named him Tank. She also wanted to give the opportunity for the dog’s owner to reach out, so she left her phone number inside the tent and made posts on social media.
Although it was discouraging to find a dog left abandoned in the tent, she doesn’t feel as if it was done on purpose. More than likely, Tank belongs to a homeless person who may have been hospitalized or something else may have happened to them.
When posting on TikTok, she wrote: “We just want to see the puppy safe, and will work with them to help make that happen. It’s been a very very emotional day for everyone so please try to keep any negativity, judgements or hate to yourself.”
She did agree to keep the dog through the winter and provide food for the dog, but she wanted to be able to support the dog’s family in any way she could.
@shelbymorgantilley It’s been a crazy crazy day. Please share this and help us find his owner. We just want to see the puppy safe, and will work with them to help make that happen. It’s been a very very emotional day for everyone so please try to keep any negativity, judgements or hate to yourself. #founddog #rescuedog #londonON #ldnont #help ♬ Dandelions – Ruth B.
For the time being, Tank is being kept at a boarding facility.
